Bowrider Boats Made in France

Mediterranean day-boat thinking — sunpads, swim platforms and elegant open bowriders from Europe's biggest boat groups.

French builders approach the bowrider as a Mediterranean day boat rather than a watersports platform. The priorities are sunbathing area, an easy swim platform, shade, and a cockpit that works for a long lunch at anchor. Bow seating is generously padded and convertible, and hulls are tuned for comfortable cruising in moderate coastal chop.

Bénéteau and Jeanneau, both French, are the two largest recreational boat brands in Europe, and their Flyer and Cap Camarat ranges put bowrider-style open day boats into every marina from Marseille to Sydney. Build quality is European production standard — moulded fibreglass, clean deck mouldings, mostly outboard power — with a strong focus on usable space per metre.

Production runs out of the Vendée and Loire-Atlantique boat-building region on France's Atlantic coast, with dealer outlets throughout the Mediterranean, northern Europe, Australia and the Americas. For buyers who want a stylish coastal bowrider with European finish and worldwide parts support, the French builders are the obvious starting point.

Bénéteau (Flyer)

France · since 1884

European outboard bowriders built for Mediterranean-style day boating.

Bénéteau's Flyer range is the European interpretation of the bowrider, and it approaches the brief differently to the Americans. Rather than deep sunken lounges, the SUNdeck and SPACEdeck layouts use convertible seating, generous sunpads, walkaround side decks and clever removable tables, so the same boat works for a family swim stop, a fishing session or lunch for eight at anchor. Air Step hull technology channels air beneath the running surface to reduce drag and soften the ride, giving better fuel figures and a notably drier passage in Mediterranean chop. Outboard power keeps the cockpit clear and simplifies servicing, and the boats are set up for European use with proper bathing platforms, anchor lockers and often a small enclosed head compartment on larger models. Build quality is solid production-boat standard from the world's largest boat builder, which means excellent parts availability and dealer coverage across Europe, Australia and Asia. Resale is dependable thanks to strong brand recognition.

Jeanneau (Cap Camarat)

France · since 1957

French builder whose Cap Camarat range spans bowrider, centre console and weekender.

Jeanneau's Cap Camarat range is one of Europe's most complete day boat families, and the Bow Rider versions are exactly what the name suggests: forward seating with convertible cushions, a walk-through screen, a well-appointed helm and outboard power aft. What sets them apart is the breadth of configuration — the same hull is offered as a Bow Rider, Centre Console, Walk Around or Day Cruiser, so buyers pick the deck plan that matches how they actually boat. Hull design emphasises seakeeping for coastal European conditions, with sharp entries, pronounced spray rails and enough deadrise to stay comfortable when the mistral or the afternoon sea breeze fills in. Fit-out is genuinely premium, with proper joinery on larger models, quality upholstery, a concealed head compartment on many versions and thoughtful storage throughout. As part of Groupe Beneteau, Jeanneau offers extensive dealer coverage and reliable parts supply worldwide, and used Cap Camarats hold value well across the Mediterranean and Australia.

This week we are putting the Bayliner Bayliner DX2000 in the spotlight, and it earns the spot. At 20 ft 2 in (6.16 m) long on a 8 ft (2.44 m) beam, this is a bowrider that reads the water well and still feels roomy enough for a full day out. A 20-foot deck-boat-width bowrider with outboard power and a huge social cockpit. Power comes from 115-150 hp mercury fourstroke outboard through a outboard package, and the fibreglass hull keeps the ride settled when the afternoon breeze puts a chop on the surface.

Seating is rated for 8 people, so there is space for family, friends, towels, eskies and the tow rope without anyone climbing over gear. Owners tend to buy it for family, water ski, leisure — which is exactly where it shines. Fuel is 30 us gal (114 l), and on the second-hand and new market you should expect to land somewhere around US$42,000 - US$58,000 new depending on hours, trailer and options.

Our full deep dive covers the layout in detail: bow lounge comfort, helm ergonomics, the rear entertaining area, storage that actually swallows a weekend, plus standard features, popular options and honest notes on where the boat compromises. If the Bayliner DX2000 is on your shortlist, start there — and check back next week, because the featured boat changes every week as we complete more full model reviews.

Bimini and Shade Options for Bowrider Boats

Bimini and Shade Options for Bowrider Boats — Images Created by www.Bowrider-Boats.com

Shade is the single upgrade that most extends a day on a bowrider. Without it, the crew rotates through the only shadow on board and everyone is finished by early afternoon; with it, the boat becomes a floating verandah and you stay out until the light goes. Bowriders have three broad shade families — the centre bimini, tower and hard-top shade, and the convertible bow shade over the front lounge — and most well-set-up boats end up with two of them. The standard bimini is a folding fabric top on stainless or aluminium bows, mounted amidships so it shades the helm and the passenger seat, and usually part of the rear lounge as well. It is the cheapest, lightest and most universal option, it folds flat into a boot when you want open sky, and it can be raised or dropped by one person in under a minute. Choose acrylic canvas over cheaper polyester if you can: it holds colour, resists mildew and lasts far longer in strong sun. Look at the geometry rather than just the size — a three-bow top gives a shorter shaded footprint than a four-bow, and a top mounted too low will interfere with the windscreen or force taller passengers…
